If you withdraw funds from your CD prior to the maturity date, you will be charged an early withdrawal penalty, which will be calculated based on the term of your CD, the current interest rate and the principal deposit amount. The early withdrawal penalty is first deducted from any interest that has been credited to the CD during the term and then, if necessary, from the principal balance.
For new CDs, your principal balance is the opening deposit amount. For CDs that have automatically renewed, your principal balance is the balance in your account (including interest) on the renewal date.
The applicable early withdrawal penalties are as follows:
- CD Term of 12 Months or Less: 90 days simple interest on the principal withdrawn, based on the current interest rate in effect for the CD
- CD Terms of 2 Years to 5 Years: 180 days simple interest on the principal withdrawn, based on the current interest rate in effect for the CD
